“When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might come and anoint Him. Very early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen” (Mark 16:1-2).
No matter what happens in this world, we are called to do whatever needs to be done each day. Whether it is preparing for a funeral or a feast, we should do what the day gives us to do. If these women, whose hope had been shattered, could come and be respectful and do what tradition called for, cannot we do the same? They did not know what the Lord was going to do, but they trusted anyway.
Lord, grant trust such that I would do what You give me to do today. The world often seems so messed up that I cannot understand what is happening. I am tempted to think that You are not present, but You are. Help me to go about the tasks You give me to do, being faithful and living the life You have set before me. Lead me into faithfulness. Guide me in the way of becoming like Christ.
Lord Jesus, You were in the grave and tasted death. It was a part of Your plan. You know the plans You have for each one of us. Lead me to humbly walk in the way You would have me go and guide me so that I look to You and do what You give me to do no matter what is happening around me. Help me in the way of this new life You have given me and aid me to be faithful each step of the way. Amen.
