“He sent among them swarms of flies which devoured them, and frogs which destroyed them. He gave also their crops to the grasshopper and the product of their labor to the locust.” (Psalm 78:45-46)

Whether it is good which elicits no thanks, or plagues to warn, people remain unmoved. Generation after generation sees the Lord’s hand in things and the people go about their business as if the Lord does not matter. He who holds all things together is simply a part of the fabric, not given a thought. Think again and turn to the Lord while you may that you may know His goodness.

Lord, I do forget and go about my business as if it did not matter. I do this with others too. Help me, I pray, to see in You the truth that without You I do not exist, for You are the One who created and sustains me. Guide me away from selfishness and into the truth of Your ever-present love and kindness. No matter what happens in this earth, help me see Your hand in all things.

Lord, You do care for those whom You have made. You love us enough to die for us. Guide me into Your presence to walk with You, knowing that You who hold all things in Your hands, have come that we might have true liberty and life in and through You. Guide me in the way of Your righteousness that I may abide in Your love now and forever and come to everlasting rest in You. Amen.

Devotion for Thursday, February 22, 2018

“May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you! May those who love your salvation say evermore, “God is great!” But I am poor and needy; hasten to me, O God! You are my help and my deliverer; O Lord, do not delay!” (Psalm 70:4-5)

The salvation of the Lord is trusting that God is the Lord, and that this world shall not succeed in its rebellion against the Lord. Turn to the Lord, you who are in need, and He will satisfy. Taste and see that the Lord is good. He is the help and deliverer of all who turn to Him. He will provide the way through this life of difficulty and show You His ways that you may walk in them.

Lord, You know what is needed, and all of the pitfalls that get in the way. You know what I need and allow all things for Your purpose. Guide me, O Lord, to learn from You faithfulness and the way I need to go. Help me in every time of need to look to You, for You alone are able to deliver me from the snares of the wicked. Guide me in Your ways, O Lord, that I may delight in them.

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for being out front and fighting the good fight to enable all by grace to follow You where we need to go. Teach me how to delight in the goodness of the faith You have given that I may forever hold fast to the truth You have revealed. Lead me in the way of Your righteousness and teach me how to live in this way. Keep me close to You, O Lord, now and forever. Amen.

Devotion for Sunday, February 11, 2018

“Oh draw near to my soul and redeem it; ransom me because of my enemies! You know my reproach and my shame and my dishonor; all my adversaries are before You.” (Psalm 69:28-19)

The world pulls us in and our spirit laments at the wickedness that is within. Those who pull on us to join them are our enemies, for they who live a life going down into the pit pull others down with them. Sometimes we are they. Turn to the Lord that He may redeem you from going down into the pit and lift you up and away from those who do not know the Lord. Draw near to the Lord and He will draw near to you.

Lord, You know everything about me. You know where I have been and what I have thought. I need the redemption You offer and I need to be lifted up. Sometimes I need this more than once in a day. Let me not be caught up in the ways of this world, but grow in me a mind after Your heart that I would think as You would have me think and see as You give me sight to see.

Lord Jesus, You are the light that shines in the darkness. You have come that as many as are given the ability to see would be lifted up and away from the wickedness of this world. Guide me, O Lord, to see in You the only hope to overcome this world of wickedness. Lead me into the right way of thinking and acting that I may walk humbly with You, my Savior and Lord. Amen.
