Devotion for Saturday, October 6, 2018

“Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the Lord, for He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in His faithfulness.” (Psalm 96:12b-13)

The day is coming when the Lord will set the final course for creation. He will righteously judge all people. Each will continue the course they began in this world, some to be with Him and some forever separated from Him. There is no other option than these two. Those who are faithful will be lifted up and those who go their own way will continue further away.

Lord, the rebellion begun in the beginning with our first parents continues to this day. But there are really only two kinds of people: those who move toward You and those who continue to move away from You. Help me to live into the righteousness You have given me that I may grow in the likeness of Christ and become what You have planned for me to become.

Lord Jesus, You have come making grace possible for those who will follow after You into eternity. Guide me, O Lord, in the way You would have me go knowing that only in You am I able to find the life that You give. Guide me according to Your mercy to humbly walk in the way of righteousness that I may now and always be in Your presence, living the true life. Amen.

Devotion for Wednesday, September 26, 2018

“O come, let us sing for joy to the Lord, let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation.  Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.”  (Psalm 95:1-2)

The joy of the Lord is in knowing your purpose and place in creation.  The Lord offers to those who come to Him understanding.  Come into His presence and walk in the joy of the Lord.  Know the goodness He has brought through salvation.  Be thankful for life, salvation and the promise of eternal life.  He is the rock upon which Your life is built.  Every other place is constantly shifting, but the Lord is forever.  Come to Him and know His peace and goodness.

Lord, this world is constantly shifting, and no matter where I go or what I try apart from You, it is only for a season.  Guide me to enjoy what You give to enjoy, but to know that only in You is there hope and a tomorrow.  Lead me in the way You have established that I may walk according to Your Word and live in the joy that You give.  Fill me heart with praise and thanksgiving.

Lord Jesus, thank You for making the Way possible for all who believe.  Lead me, O Lord, in the way I should go this day.  Fill my heart with Your peace and the joy You give that I may simply witness Your joy in this world.  In all I do, may it be a thank you to You for all that You have done.  You are the One through whom all things have their being and apart from You is nothing.  Amen.

Devotion for Saturday, September 8, 2018

“For You, O Lord, have made me glad by what You have done, I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands. How great are Your works, O Lord! Your thoughts are very deep.” (Psalm 92:2-3)

Too many live life thinking that everything they learned in Sunday School is enough. Then again, many families are in shambles, marriage ruined and life a mess. Being a disciple means being a student. Being a student means studying. God shares His knowledge in Scripture. Those who seek to be wise will spend time in the Word to begin understanding the wisdom of the Lord.

Lord, I live in a time where people want instant fixes without effort or difficulty. Life is difficult in this age. Help me to see and then act on the truth that there is much I need to learn. Guide me, O Lord, in the way You would have me go and learn what You would have me learn. Lead me to the place where I grow in wisdom and see more clearly Your hand in all things.

Holy Spirit, minister to my mind that I would grow in knowledge and wisdom. Give me a thirst for the righteousness of the Word and then fill me that I may find true satisfaction. Teach me how to meditate and pray. Lead me into deeper thoughts. Guide the thoughts of my mind and the meditation of my heart to seek after Your leading all the day long. Amen.

Devotion for Tuesday, August 28, 2018

“Do return, O Lord; how long will it be? And be sorry for Your servants. O satisfy us in the morning with Your lovingkindness, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.” (Psalm 90:13-14)

We have a tendency to drift far off from the ways of the Lord and receive what we have wrought. We blame the Lord and then lament. Do not tarry in the place of lament, but come into the presence of the Lord and know that all things have always been in His hands. Come into His will and walk according to His ways. Know that the Lord is good and it is He who made us and we are the workmanship of His hands.

Lord, I do get caught up in worldly thinking. Though we teach each other that things have changed, they have not. Guide me, O Lord, according to Your goodness to see clearly the truth of this age and to live into Your promises. Help me now and always to know that You alone are God and that all things have always been in Your hands. Lift me up in wisdom to walk in Your sight.

Holy Spirit, guide my heart this day to see Your hand everywhere. Do not let me tarry in the false idealism of this age, but see clearly that there is purpose, and that purpose is to walk where You lead. Guide me according to the grace You have given me to be humble yet bold in the faith You have put in my heart that I may live this day giving You thanks for all Your goodness, Amen.

Devotion for Wednesday, June 27, 2018

“How lovely are Your dwelling places, O Lord of hosts! My soul longed and even yearned for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God.” (Psalm 84:1-2)

The world imagines a place that is perfect. The perfect place is the dwelling place of the Lord. The world, filled with imperfect people want a perfect place and they imagine they can build it. Why try to build what can never be perfect if created by imperfect people? Why not come to the Lord who has already prepared a place for those who love Him? Let your soul long for the Lord.

Lord, I see the madness of this world where people crawl on top of each other wanting what You are already offering. Guide me, O Lord, in the goodness of Your mercy to walk humbly in the path You have laid before me. Lead me to see most clearly that the way of perfection is You who is my Savior. Guide me in the upward path of salvation that I may walk in Your ways.

Lord Jesus, the only perfect man to walk the earth, Who came down to lift up with You those who follow in the way You have established, guide me in the upward path of grace and faith. Help me overcome the obstacles of this world which seek to ensnare me in traps of vain imagination when You are right here. Lead me today in the way I should go that I would walk with You always. Amen.
