Devotion for Tuesday, December 6, 2022

“[T]hen the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment, and especially those who indulge the flesh in its corrupt desires and despise authority” (2 Peter 2:9-10a).

We live in an age which seeks to indulge.  Rather than live for what is right, we seek and strive after things that do not matter.  Why live for what is temporary when all you need has already been provided through the goodness of the Lord.  Come into His presence and live into the life which He gives you by grace.  Know that in the Lord there is freedom from the wages of sin because of His grace and mercy.

Lord, we all are weighed down by the dissipation of sin.  You have died so that sin might not be held against me — not that I am free from sin, but freed from what sin does.  Help me to live into the life to which You call me knowing that only in You is there hope and a future.  Let me no longer strive after the things of the flesh but seek earnestly that Your will be done in my life.  Help me respect Your authority in willing obedience.

Lord Jesus, all authority and power belong to You.  The striving for power in this age is an illusion.  Help me to understand this and live according to Your goodness and mercy.  Lead me today and, where I am tempted by things of the flesh which would hinder my walk, guide me to avoid them.  Where I am free to do good things, grant me wisdom to do them.  In all things, give me confidence to stand firm in You through the faith You have given me.  Amen.

Devotion for Monday, December 5, 2022

“[A]nd if He rescued righteous Lot, oppressed by the sensual conduct of unprincipled men (for by what he saw and heard that righteous man, while living among them, felt his righteous soul tormented day after day by their lawless deeds)” (2 Peter 2:7)

Do you ever look out at the world puzzled and wonder what has gone wrong?  The more you live in the faith the Lord has given you, the more you realize there is something really wrong with this world.  It is sin.  Sin has come into the world and the order of the Lord has been destroyed.  The Lord has come to give you everlasting life.  Come then, be dismayed at the world, but overjoyed with what the Lord has done for His chosen ones.

Lord, help me to see clearly the difference in these two things.  Guide me according to Your goodness to know that in You alone am I able to see all that is true and right.  This world is messed up and I have the world’s ideas in me.  Guide me according to Your goodness to know that in You alone is all hope.  Let me be a righteous person living amidst all of those in this world who do or do not know You, and live with them in peace.

Lord Jesus, God in the flesh, You have walked in this crazy world and know how difficult it is.  There is a shadow of goodness in all of creation.  There is also the pollution of sin.  Guide me, dear Lord, to live in that way which is pleasing to the Father.  Help me to see the differences clearly and choose the better path.  In all that happens, help me Lord to live as You direct.  Amen.

Devotion for Sunday, December 4, 2022

[A]nd if He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction by reducing them to ashes, having made them an example to those who would live ungodly lives thereafter” (2 Peter 2:6)

The dead are dead already.  Those who are in the Lord are alive even if they are asleep.  Those who stay in sin are dead to themselves and to the Lord.  Being animated is not true life.  Living as the Lord created you to live is real life.  Come into the life which is yours in Christ and do not live as the ungodly do.  The Lord rightly destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.  Can He not do what He will with what belongs to Him?

Lord, I live in an age that is so cavalier about these things.  Everyone gets all upset if I do not celebrate whatever they deem right and good.  But You have spoken, and Your Word does not change.  Lead me in the way of everlasting life so that I would realize that I should take all these good and bad things seriously.  Guide me according to Your goodness to know that in You is all hope and an eternal future.

Lord of Life, Savior Jesus, You have come to lead the way for all who walk in the newness of life You give.  Guide me, dear Lord, according to Your purposes and guide me to walk in the way You are leading me, leaving behind the ways of this dead world.  You have come to give life.  Lead me in living that life so that I may grow each day to be more like You.  Let me become an example to others of godly living.  Amen.

Devotion for Saturday, December 3, 2022

“[A]nd did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly” (2 Peter 2:5)

Lord, I sometimes wonder when I see all the wickedness in the world why You continue to let it run its course.  Help me to see that there is also much beauty around me and that Your salvation reaches whom it reaches.  Guide me in the way of true life so that I simply look to You for all things.  Guide me in Your goodness to the way of living which is true and eternal.

Lord, You know where I fall short.  You know where I have seen and done things that are not true to You or to what You have said in Scripture.  Correct me, Lord, so that I may repent and come into harmony with You.  In the end, You will blot out the wickedness of this world.  It must be so if heaven is to remain perfect.  Help me to see and act upon these things so that goodness prevails in me and is reflected to others.

Lord Jesus, You are the way of everlasting life.  You have established what is right and true.  You are the ark upon which we can safely float to flee the flood of wickedness in this age.  In You is the hope for every generation.  Lord, help me to stay in the safety of Your provision and not try to do these things on my own.  Guide me now and forever, and help me to willingly live in Your provision.  Amen.

Devotions for Friday, December 2, 2022

“For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment” (2 Peter 2:4)

How is it that some think that what they say or do makes no difference?  Something may be said or done and  the moment something contrary happens, they will go back on what they said or did.  The truth speaks, but will we listen?  One third of the angels were cast into hell.  Those who rebel against the Lord and continue on that path are bound for hell.  We live in a world that rejects the truth.  Christ is truth.  Yes, there is a hell and God has provided a means of rescue from hell for those who are willing to follow truth who is Christ our Savior.

Lord, help me see that You rescue those who are hell-bound.  All have sinned and fallen short of Your glory.  The wages of sin is death.  Lead me, O Lord, in the way of life so that I would live according to Your promises and for Your purpose.  Do not let me make light of that which is eternal.  Guide me according to Your will to do what is right and fitting in all things and at all times.

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for paying the price so that the inevitable destination for the rebellious ones would not be mine.  You have done what was needed so that I could be forever with You.  Lead me, Lord, in the way You have established.  Guide me according to Your goodness to see what is right and true.  Help me to hear what I need to hear and to be willing to live according to Your Word.  Amen.

Devotion for Thursday, December 1, 2022

“Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned; and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep” (2 Peter 2:2-3).

How do you feel about that?  Our hearts are wicked and deceitful and not to be trusted.  Our feelings will lead us astray.  Look at the truth of the word and be led by the One who created you.  How you feel will change and sometimes your feelings will lead you astray.  Come then and be led by the truth of the One who has redeemed you.  Listen to His word of truth and be led in truth.

Lord, You have spoken in these latter days through Your Son.  Guide me into all truth so that I would not be led astray by the false words that are all around me.  Lead me by Your truth that I may now and always walk in Your ways.  You have called me through faith to be led into all truth.  Keep me in Your truth, Lord.  Once I know the real thing, everything false is seen more easily.  Teach me truth.

Lord Jesus, You are truth.  You have come that I may have life and have it abundantly.  Guide me, dear Lord, in the way You have established and train my ears to know the truth when it is spoken.  Keep me away from the false prophets who seek to maim and destroy.  Lead me into all truth in order that I may be conformed to Your likeness.  Lead me, O Lord, and teach me to follow.  Amen.

Devotion for Wednesday, November 30, 2022

“But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves” (2 Peter 2:10).

It’s a mistake to think that good theology does not matter.  We want our ears tickled, but tickled ears mean nothing.  Only those who are in the Lord will be with Him in eternity.  Beware lest you fall prey to this world’s ploy of making you feel good about yourself without challenging you to live the truth of the whole counsel of God.  Jesus died to enable you to be with Him.  We are to die to self and love others in order to be resurrected to new life.

Lord, I have accepted garbage in my life and lived in compromising ways with the truth.  Lead me out of these things so that I may live in pure truth knowing that only in You is there hope and a future.  Guide me to live according to Your word, Lord, and not settle for the slick words of some snake oil salesman who would lead me astray.  Keep me steadfast in the truths You have spoken.  Your Word is truth.

Lord Jesus, You are the way, truth and life.  Lead me according to Your goodness and mercy to live into the Gospel life to which You have called me through grace.  Help me to be diligent in studying Your word so that I know the truth when I hear it, and help me to know also what things that are not true when I hear them.  In all things, guide me in Your goodness along the path You have made possible for Your redeemed.  Amen.

Devotion for Tuesday, November 29, 2022

“For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:21).

We do well to listen when the Lord uses those whom He chooses to speak.  Listen to the word of the Lord and hear what He gives you to hear.  Know that in Him is life and true liberty.  He will guide you in all of your ways.  He will lift you up out of the pit.  He who is sovereign will do these things.  Come into the admonition and comfort of the Lord and live according to His word and promise.

Lord, You spoke through the prophets of old.  In these last days, You have spoken through Your Son.  Guide me, O Lord, in the truth Your prophets have spoken in order  that I would understand both those who speak for You as well as those who speak for themselves.  With discerning ears, let me hear the difference, rejoicing in Your word of prophecy being spoken for all ages and rejecting false prophets.

Lord Jesus, everything I need to know You have already taught me.  Guide me in the way of truth Lord, that I would forever hold fast to truth.  Keep me in all truth and let me never be led astray.  Lead me now and forever so that I may hear what is good and right and not be led astray by false teachers.  Lord, You have given me the words of everlasting life.  Help me to keep in the way of true life always.  Amen.

Devotion for Monday, November 28, 2022

“Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things” (2 Peter 1:20).

We did not create ourselves and we have no certainty what tomorrow will bring.  Any prophecy must come from outside.  But beware of those who call themselves prophets.  They must be one hundred percent correct and in complete harmony with Scripture.  One thing that is false, just one variation from Holy Scripture, and they are no prophet from God.  We did not invent this.  It was revealed to us in Scripture through the Holy Spirit.

Lord, I love the things that titillate my ears.  Help me to not fall prey to fanciful words that are not true.  Hold me fast to the goodness of Your grace and mercy so that I would now and forever know truth when I hear it.  Guide me in the way of everlasting life now and forever.  Let me speak only what You have given me to know.  Help me to hear as Your Spirit speaks.

Lord Jesus, as an example for us, You said that You only spoke what the Father gave You to speak.  If You, being Lord, only speak what the Father gives You, how much more should we seek to only speak what You give us to say.  Let my lips be governed by you and be acceptable to You.  Let my heart hear when You speak.  In all things teach me truth.  Your Word is truth.  You are truth.  Guide me in truth.  Amen.

Devotion for Sunday, November 27, 2022

“We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts” (2 Peter 1:19).

The Lord speaks in many and various ways and in these last days He has revealed that all revelation speaks through His Son.  Do not be deceived by the insanity of this world.  That deceptiveness will continue to the end.  Be transformed by the renewing of your mind by keeping it upon Christ Jesus.  Listen to the prophecy of the Lord and be guided by His goodness and mercy that in all things you may be found in Him.

Lord, You have come that all who hear Your word of truth may know that truth has become in them a wellspring that bubbles up unto eternal life.  In the truth You have given me, guide me now and always that I may forever be led by You.  Help me to understand more fully as You feed me in the truth You have revealed that I may be guided by Your goodness and mercy always.

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for making the impossible possible.  Help me, I pray, amidst the adversities of this world, to trust in Your provision.  Guide me in Your goodness to hear truth and respond in truth.  Lead me so that when Your word of prophecy is spoken, I may hear and believe.  In and through all things, continue to strengthen me in Your revealed word of truth.  Be with me on the upward way that I too may give a good and true testimony, Amen.
