Devotion for Thursday, December 6, 2018

“You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; and You renew the face of the ground. Let the glory of the Lord endure forever; let the Lord be glad in His works; He looks at the earth, and it trembles; He touches the mountains, and they smoke.” (Psalm 104:30-31)

Your Spirit comes and new life springs forth. Jesus said that those who come into the promise will drink the water of life and never thirst again. Bring this water of life, that those who come to You may know the fullness of Your presence and purpose. You who sustain all things have given good gifts to those who fear You. Your love alone endures forever, calling us to rejoice in Your lovingkindness.

Lord, You know the struggles of my heart. Guide me, O Lord, in the way I need to go that I would now and always abide in Your promises. Help me see the truth and not go astray in any other direction. Lead me according to Your purposes to be one of Your works. It is You alone whose will shall be done in all times and places, for You are the Sovereign God, above all Your creation.

Come, Holy Spirit, and minister to my mind and heart. Lead me in the upward path by stripping away the things that will fall away in the end. Help me walk humbly by grace in Your mercy and according to the Father’s will. Lift my countenance to reflect Your presence through all I say and in all I do. May I abide in your presence forever and praise the goodness of the works of Your hand. Amen.

Devotion for Wednesday, December 5, 2018

“You give to them, they gather it up; You open Your hand, they are satisfied with good. You hide Your face, they are dismayed; You take away their spirit, they expire and return to their dust.” (Psalm 104:28-29)

Everything you gather, all that you collect, will one day go to another. All that we have on this earth is temporary, with the exception of our character. All are destined for the dust, but all have a promise before them. Come into the presence of the Lord and seek Him while He may be found. Know that in the Lord is liberty and life and apart from Him is nothing good.

Lord, You are good and I do not know the fullness of Your goodness. I tend to cling to what I know. Help me learn to walk in the faith You have given me that my journey be according to Your Word and not according to the foolish ways of this age. Guide me in the fullness of Your grace and mercy that I may abide now and forever in You, the God who created all things and for whom all things exist.

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for walking in our midst and granting the promise of grace. Lead me now and always in the grace You give that I may forever abide in You and You in me. Grow in me wisdom and understanding that I may live into the promise of becoming like You. Take me where I need to go and remove from me the obstacles that hinder this life into which You are bringing me. Amen.

Devotion for Tuesday, December 4, 2018

“There the ships move along, and Leviathan, which You have formed to sport in it. They all wait for You to give them their food in due season.” (Psalm 104:26-27)

The hyper-pietist might be offended to think the Lord laughs. He created the leviathan for fun. He did it because He can. Were we not created in God’s image? Do we not laugh and have joy when we do? The Lord is complex as we are complex and He is diverse as we are diverse because we were made in His image. He made us, we did not make Him. Abide in His presence and know that He is good.

Lord, I often fall prey to thinking of You as a two-dimensioned creation. You are God, the Creator of all things. Help me to delve into Your mystery and majesty knowing that You who created all things provides for what You have created. Teach me to rejoice and laugh with joy in the midst of this marvelous creation that You have made. Guide me into the right spirit that humbly bows before You in all things.

Come, Holy Spirit, and minister to my heart that I would now and always praise You for the goodness that is all around me. Yes, I am in a world filled with evil. Yes, there are problems and difficulties, but help me now and always to see through these to see Your ever present goodness in all things. Lead me to be one who loves and praises You above all things. Amen.

Devotion for Monday, December 3, 2018

“O Lord, how many are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all; the earth is full of Your possessions. There is the sea, great and broad, in which are swarms without number, animals both small and great.” (Psalm 104:24-25)

Can anyone begin to count all of the works of the Lord? Can anyone fathom the God who knows the heart of every soul? By His understanding and awareness, all that is comes into being by the hand of the Lord. It is all His and He knows what He has made. Rejoice in the presence of the Lord and continue to seek Him while He may be found. Know that in the Lord is truth and life and all that is needed.

Lord, I see the anxious reactions of humans to conditions and then fathom that You know all of these things and knew them before they happened. Guide me, O Lord, in wisdom that I would not worry, but marvel at Your glory. All things are in Your hands and You are the One who made all things. In You alone is every answer to our questions and in You alone is all of our hope. Lead me to abide with You, O Lord.

Come, Holy Spirit, and guide me into the everlasting way of life. Lead me by Your counsel and change my heart to marvel at Your creation, and to worship You, the Creator of all things. Lead me day by day and step by step that I may now and forever walk in the grace I’ve been given. Let my heart sing praises of You, O Lord. May my life be wholly yours and be lived according to Your will. Amen.

Devotion for Sunday, December 2, 2018

“When the sun rises they withdraw and lie down in their dens. Man goes forth to his work and to his labor until evening.” (Psalm 104:22-23)

That which stalks in the darkness is not a threat in the light of day. We are reminded to walk in the light of the Lord and the darkness of this world will not overcome the light of Christ which shines in you. There is work to be done and you are called into the light of the Lord to be about His business. Fear not the night, but delight each day in the gift of light you have been given.

Lord, there are many things in this world which frighten me. Guide me by the gift of Your Holy Spirit that I may not fear what comes in the darkness but know that You are always with me. Lead me, O Lord, in the way of truth that I may walk in Your presence doing what You would have me do. In You alone, O Lord, do I find my comfort and my refuge, my help in every time of need.

Thank You Lord Jesus, Light of the world who shines in the darkness. Darkness is not darkness for You, for all things have been placed in Your hands. Lead me, O Lord, in the way of grace to know that I am always in Your view. Grant me according to Your goodness to have the eternal hope You have given in the abundance of grace which You purchased for us all. Amen.

Devotion for Saturday, December 1, 2018

“You appoint darkness and it becomes night, in which all the beasts of the forest prowl about. The young lions roar after their prey and seek their food from God.” (Psalm 104:20-21)

God knows the times, seasons and instincts of all creatures. We do better to seek to understand better the mystery of all that God has made than to continuously question why He has done what He has done. The provision of the Lord is so far, wide and deep that a thousand lifetimes would not be enough to explore the depth of God. He provides for all living things.

Lord, I can only begin to see the magnitude of all that You have made. Lead my mind away from the way of this world, which simplistically dismisses things, to begin to understand the depth of Your wisdom. You have marvelously made all things and they are in Your hands. Guide me, O Lord, in Your wisdom that I may learn from You, and grow in knowledge and understanding.

Lord Jesus, You have come to impart the truth of all ages. May I learn from You and grow in the only wisdom there is, knowing that only through You and the grace You give may I gain wisdom. Help me this day Lord Jesus to see through the false knowledge offered by this world to live into the eternal wisdom You grant. By grace, lead me in faith today to seek the eternal truth always. Amen.

“You appoint darkness and it becomes night, in which all the beasts of the forest prowl about.  The young lions roar after their prey and seek their food from God.”  (Psalm 104:20-21)

The times, seasons and instincts of all creatures is known by God.

Lead my mind away from the way of this world, which simplistically dismisses things, to understand the depth of Your wisdom.  You have marvelously made all things and they are in Your hands.  Guide me, O Lord, in Your wisdom that I may learn from You and grow in knowledge and understanding.

Amen.

Devotion for Thursday, November 29, 2019

“The high mountains are for the wild goats; the cliffs are a refuge for the shephanim.  He made the moon for the seasons; the sun knows the place of its setting.”  (Psalm 104:18-19)

Look at the seasons.  See the ways in which the Lord provides for all that He has created.  Everything has order.  The Lord has a purpose in all things.  Come into the Lord’s presence and know that He has purpose for you as well.  The goodness of the Lord shows forth in all that He has created.  In Him is life and that life is provided for in His goodness.  He who watches over the goats in the mountains will watch over you.

Lord, You know the plans You have made for all of Your creatures.  You have marvelously made all that exists.  Guide me, O Lord, in the way of understanding that I would see the world around me with wisdom.  Help me now and always to look to You and see the goodness of the work of Your hands.  Lift me up to be in Your presence now and forever that I would walk humbly in Your ways.

Holy Spirit, open my eyes to see and my mind to understand that all is needed has already been provided for.  Lead me in the way of thanksgiving that I would rejoice in all the goodness that is present.  Lead me through the evil that is around me to know that Your goodness prevails.  Help me now and always to see in You the hope of glory and the way of everlasting life.  Amen.

Devotion for Wednesday, November 28, 2018

“The trees of the Lord drink their fill, the cedars of Lebanon which He planted, where the birds build their nests, and the stork, whose home is the fir trees.”  (Psalm 104:16-17)

We often do not think of the reality of all of the provision that is around us.  The wonder of what God has made and how all life is sustained.  Marvel at the work of the Lord.  Hear the good news of great joy which He has given to all who will listen.  Know that He has called you by name and has given provision for you as well.  The Lord is good and share His goodness with those who turn to Him.

Lord, open my eyes to see and my ears to hear the truth of Your goodness which is preached every day with the life that is around me.  Guide my heart to be open that I may not reject what I hear and what I see.  Lead me into a life that rejoices in You and whose hope is upon Your Word and Your promises.  May I journey this upward path in Your presence and by Your power.

Lord Jesus, You have paved the way for all who will turn to You to see, hear, know and witness the goodness that is all around.  Yes, there is plenty of evil in this world, but You have overcome the world.  Lead me in grace to follow in Your footsteps that I may now and always walk according to the way for which You have created me to walk.  In Your Spirit, guide me now and always.  Amen.

Devotion for Tuesday, November 27, 2018

“He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, and vegetation for the labor of man, so that he may bring forth food from the earth, and wine which makes man’s heart glad, so that he may make his face glisten with oil, and food which sustains man’s heart.”  (Psalm 104:14-15)

Look carefully and you will see that God did not create things just so we could merely survive.  He gave us those things He knew would bring us joy.  Many long for times when they can enjoy themselves, and they do.  What brings that joy?  Is it not what the Lord has already provided?  Look to the One who has provided all things and know that in Him is hope, life, joy and goodness.

Come, Holy Spirit, and help readjust my attitude that I may see that in all that has been made is the joy of life.  Goodness is all around me.  Help me see through the evil in this world, brought on by humanity’s rebellion, to see the goodness that has always been here.  Lead me in the upward journey to understand that You are good all the time and that You will guide me into the way of peace with God and neighbor.

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for leading the way through this world filled with heartache to show that life wins in the end.  Guide me in grace to see others the way You see them and to learn how to love as You love.  Lift my spirit to see through every circumstance and know that all things will work together for good for those who love You.  By Your grace and according to the Father’s purpose, lead me, O Lord.  Amen.
