Devotion for Sunday, November 1, 2026

“And some tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?”  And he said to them, “Collect no more than what you have been ordered to” (Luke 3:12-13).

Many jobs offer the potential to take advantage and be dishonest.  Whether it is something small or large that is tempting does not matter, we are reminded that we should not take what is not ours.  To repent is to recognize the sin, turn from it, and no longer do what you did which caused you to sin.  The principle here is one of learning how to obey.  The Lord has told us that we are to obey all that He commands.

Lord God, You know the places where I play games with myself and others.  Lead me in true repentance where I recognize those places where I have played these games, and willingly enter onto the path of learning how not to do them.  Only by the help of Your Holy Spirit am I able to do this.  Guide me not only to understand but to act properly so that I may live the life You intend for me.

Lord Jesus, You know the places where I need to be directed in what I should do.  Lead me to comprehend these places where I need Your guidance and direction.  Help me to become the person You are making me to be by aiding me through those places where I need to repent and make amends.  Guide me to live by the standard You have set before me to act according to the Father’s will.  Amen.
