“But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11).

Good news of great joy, in fulfillment of prophecy, the anointed heir of the throne, the Savior of the world, has come.  Many have heard these lines, but it seems that few really hear and understand them.  The full truth of the message is something we can barely begin to comprehend.  The God of all creation has come to us vulnerable, needy, and seemingly no threat to anyone.  But His very presence threatens all who are in rebellion against Him.

Lord, the wickedness of this world decorates the events of that night to make them colorful, busy, and focused upon my own desires and fantasies.  Help me to see the humble simpleness of the greatest even in history so that I would humbly join with You and leave behind this world that is constantly masking what is right and true while promoting what is wrong and false.

Lord Jesus, You have come so that we might follow Your lead, through the grace You purchased with Your own innocence and the sacrifice of Your life in order that we might become what the Father will make of us.  Guide me in the faith You have given me to humbly walk in the shadows of this world so that I may become what is intended.  Empower me to receive the message You give and come to You, my Savior.  Amen.
