“When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be frightened; those things must take place; but that is not yet the end.  For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will also be famines. These things are merely the beginning of birth pangs” (Mark 13:7-8).

All of history must unfold as the Lord has determined.  We cry out about the increased wickedness we see around us, but the Lord has promised that there is purpose in all things He allows to happen.  For those who love Him, it will work for good.  Meanwhile, the most unreasonable thing would be to reject the hope of salvation because you do not understand why God allows certain things.

Lord, even in my thinking I am dependent upon my own thoughts rather than the revelation You have given me by Your grace.  Bring me to humbleness to trust all that You promise even while the world screams that You do not exist because You have allowed us all to exercise our wills and produce evil.  Help me to trust Your promise that You will bring me through all these things to be with You forever.

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for giving us the warnings we need.  Help me to make no more or less of them than I should. Guide me each day that You give me to humbly walk with You, trusting in each day’s provision.  The birth pangs of eternity are happening before our eyes.  There is great pain, but also, You have given great promise for the eternal joy which is ours in You.  Aid me to abide in You today.  Amen.
