Devotion for Saturday, October 25, 2025

“Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath” (Mark 2:27-28).
We humans need to rest. Our minds, bodies, and souls need a time out. Especially in our fast-paced culture, we need to take time and rest. God knows us and gives us a weekly opportunity to rest ourselves so that we do not overdo things. We may anyway, but this law was given to provide a purpose for resting. Learn how to take time out and rest with the Lord. Learn to rest on the Sabbath.
Lord, it seems as though our sinful nature moves from one extreme to another in a blink of an eye. Help us to learn what it means to rest in You. Teach us what this means when You tell us that this commandment is a gift. Guide us all, Lord, in living according to Your Law, knowing that we can do so only by Your grace. Help us to learn what it means to seek faithfulness with the liberty You give.
Lord Jesus, You are constantly teaching as You guide us forward. Help me to walk with You with my eyes and ears open to Your Word. Help me move when it is time to move and to rest when it is time to rest. You are the Lord of lords, and all things are under Your authority. Teach me how to respect Your authority Jesus, learning to rest in Your commands to love my neighbor and myself in a way that pleases the Father. Amen.
