“Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men” (Philippians 2:5-7).

Do you wonder what God is up to?  You have been given the power to become a child of God in Christ.  Yet, though you have this power, you will never be God.  A child, yes, but do not let that go to your head with pride.  Be the slave of the Lord and learn obedience to do all that He says.  Look to the Lord as the lesser to the greater, just as Christ did in His earthly ministry.  He who was equal acted as One who was less.

Lord, this root of humility is hard to grasp.  I seem to always get in the way.  Lead me, Lord, to know that in You alone is all hope and the only future for anyone that is worth living.  Guide me in all that You are doing so that I would learn to trust You above all things.  Let me not be caught up, as the world is caught up, in vanity or pride, but to be in You and doing Your will.  May I learn from You how to be humble and take the place You give me.

Lord Jesus, You acted as the slave of all so that all might have the opportunity for salvation.  Help me not take Your place but follow Your example and be the servant of my neighbor.  Lord, You alone know all that is needed.  Guide me in the way of salvation so that I would learn from You what is needed and learn how to behave according to the Father’s will.  May I be found  faithful to You through all things and for Your sake.  Amen.
