“It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery” (Galatians 5:1).

For freedom is what it says.  Two things, first, you were born in slavery.  Second, Christ has set you free.  What does this mean?  It means that all protestations aside, sin is bondage and grace brings freedom.  We have the tendency to want bondage and not live in freedom.  We need to be reminded to turn this around and live into the freedom which is ours through Christ.

Lord, You have set all who believe free from the bondage of sin, which is death.  Let Your grace bubble up from the heart and be a wellspring unto eternal life.  Open eyes and ears to see and hear.  In the way of grace, let truth build its foundation that all who believe may walk in the way of salvation and not in the way of this world.  Help us all to see clearly the difference before us.

Lord Jesus, only by and through You are we able to overcome by Your grace what sin and death have brought.  Help me to stand firm in the freedom You have purchased with Your own blood that I may walk in the freedom and newness of life that You make possible.  Let me never sell my gift of grace for the pottage of this world.  Guide me to grow in the way of grace unto the eternal life You promise.  Amen.
