“Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.  But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup” (1 Corinthians 11:27-28).

What we are called to do in the Lord is neither rote, nor mechanical; it is a living relationship.  Do not treat the grace of the Lord as something that is yours because you deserve it, but live in the grace you’ve been given.  It is a loving relationship and pride and selfishness are not a part of this relationship.  Live then into what the Lord is giving and abide in His presence always.

Lord, my moods swing all over the place.  Help me to live each day knowing that I am in Your presence.  Guide me in spite of my moods to live knowing that I am in You and You are in me.  Lead me to live in the eternal relationship You have established through grace that I may now and always be faithful when I partake of Your grace.  Help me to be honest and forthright always.

Lord Jesus, it is Your shed blood that has paid the price for my remission of sin.  May I never treat this with disdain or in any way disrespect Your invitation to join with the saints of all times and places.  Lead me to always be respectful and a willing participant in this gift which You give.   Though my heart may not always be in the right place, create in me a new and clean heart that respectfully receives what You alone can give.  Amen.
