Devotion for Wednesday, October 31, 2018

“For I have eaten ashes like bread and mingled my drink with weeping because of Your indignation and Your wrath, for You have lifted me up and cast me away.” (Psalm 102:9-10)

The Lord cannot tolerate sin, yet sin is all around in this age. Sin is sloppy and it does much damage to those who are around the sinner. Do see more clearly, how difficult the sin issue is before railing against the Lord. All have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory, yet God has provided forgiveness for the repentant sinner. Come into His mercy and do not blame Him for what others do.

Lord, I know some of my own sin, but often look at others and rail against them. Help me to simply live in the grace You have given me that I may walk humbly in Your presence. Lead me, O Lord, in the way You alone know I need to go. You know the plans You have and they are eternal, but I am currently temporal. Guide me in the way of life and true liberty.

Lord Jesus, without You all would be lost and salvation would be impossible. Guide me, O Lord, in the way of living that leads to eternal life. Help me now and always to see in You the way out of the mess of sin. It will not be fully done in this age, so help me to recognize the need to prepare. May I now and always look to You for the strength I need to move through each day. Amen.

Devotion for Tuesday, October 30, 2018

“I lie awake, I have become like a lonely bird on a housetop. My enemies have reproached me all day long; those who deride me have used my name as a curse.” (Psalm 102:7-8)

Lord, lift up my eyes to see from where my help comes. Remind me of the goodness of Your Word that I may be comforted by the truth in a world filled with lies. Lead me, O Lord, by Your Word that I may now and always see the truth of Your presence and purpose. Help me to abide in You as You abide in me that I would walk humbly, knowing that You are always with me.

Comfort me, Holy Spirit, in times of distress. When all is well, remind me then also that You are with me. At all times may I quickly remember the truth that I am in Your protective arms. Guide me in the way I should go that even when I am feeling what is contrary to what You have spoken, I may know in my heart that I am Yours and You are mine. Lead me in Your love, O Lord.

Lord Jesus, You know betrayal and the truth of this world ignoring You. In those times which we all experience while walking in this wicked age, guide me in the truth You have revealed through grace that I would not be despondent. Lift me up to see more clearly through cloudy times the clearness of the light You have revealed for all to see that You are with us always to the end of the age. Amen.

Devotion for Monday, October 29, 2018

“Because of the loudness of my groaning my bones cling to my flesh. I resemble a pelican of the wilderness; I have become like an owl of the waste places.” (Psalm 102:5-6)

There are times when one feels all alone. You are never alone, but sometimes you feel that way, even if in the midst of a crowd. The Lord is always with you. He watches over your going out and your coming in. Be comforted by the truth of His constant presence. Know that He who created you has said that you are of great worth. Be in His presence and know His goodness.

Lord, in those times where I feel what is not true, comfort me with Your Spirit that I may be guided into the loving relationship that You have made possible by grace. Guide me according to Your goodness to live into the life to which You have called me. Guide me now and always to live according to the truth of Your Word that I may, even in times where I feel alone, grow into the likeness of Christ.

Lord Jesus, there are many times where you went into the wilderness to “be alone,” yet, with the Father and the Holy Spirit You are never alone. Teach me to be like You that when I am overwhelmed with this world’s chaos I may never mistake the abandonment I feel in this world with the truth that I am never alone. Guide me to persevere in the truth of Your presence. Amen.

Devotion for Sunday, October 28, 2018

“For my days have been consumed in smoke, and my bones have been scorched like a hearth. My heart has been smitten like grass and has withered away, indeed, I forget to eat my bread.” (Psalm 102:3-4)

Sometimes life is very difficult. Things come around you and seem to be smothering you. Have you ever reflected on the promise of the Lord that all things work together for good for those who love the Lord? Have you walked with that promise as the call on your life? It changes things; for then you see that the Lord will grow you through everything you experience.

Lord, help me to see more clearly the ways in which You have led me through the difficult times in my life. Guide me into wisdom that I may see that You are always at work and growing in me the image of Christ. Help me to walk, if even slowly, through those difficult valleys with hope, knowing that You are always with me and You are always at work in my life for blessings.

Holy Spirit, minister to my heart that I may have perseverance. Guide me through the valleys through which I must walk. Lift my eyes up to see from whence comes my help. Let me not look down into despair, but up to the eternal hope which has already been granted by grace through the work of Jesus. May I listen to You as You direct me this day, and walk humbly in the Father’s presence. Amen.

Devotion for Saturday, October 27, 2018

“Hear my prayer, O Lord! And let my cry for help come to You. Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my distress; incline Your ear to me; in the day when I call answer me quickly.” (Psalm 102:1-2)

There are times when it seems that you are all alone. Life is not going as you imagine it should be. But the Lord is not hiding His face. Have you ever thought that maybe you were the one hiding from Him? Know that you are always in the Lord’s presence. Acknowledge Him and know His goodness. Yes, you will have days that will not be what you imagine, but the Lord is with you every step of the way.

Lord, open my eyes to see that You have called me to walk with You at all times. Keep me from being so distracted that I do not see You. Like a child in a crowd who looks the other way, I sometimes lose sight of You. Keep my attention on You and what You are doing that I may live into the life to which You have called me. May I learn from You and see You clearly always.

Lord Jesus, abide in me and teach me to abide in You. Guide me in the way You have established that I may walk today and every day knowing that You are with me and will never leave nor forsake me. Guide me as You know I need to be led. Help me to never let go of Your hand knowing that only You can lead me, a child of God, through the wilderness of this age. Amen.

Devotion for Friday, October 26, 2018

“He who practices deceit shall not dwell within my house; he who speaks falsehood shall not maintain his position before me. Every morning I will destroy all the wicked of the land, So as to cut off from the city of the Lord all those who do iniquity.” (Psalm 101:7-8)

The Lord means what He commanded when He gave His commandments. He will not tolerate a false word or a deceitful heart. Yes, you too have problems in this realm. All sinners do. Perhaps the worse are the ones who say they have no sin. Come to the Lord and let Him place in you a new and clean heart. Be conformed to the goodness of the Lord and live into the life to which He has called you.

Lord, point out the places where I can go to work on those areas of my life that need changing. Help me overcome the wrong attitudes and impulses that lead me into sin. Help me now and always to be honest before You as You conform me to the image of Christ. May I now and always have a desire to be the kind of person You are creating me to be and a willing heart to be transformed.

Lord Jesus, in You alone am I able to be conformed to Your likeness. By Your grace and in the Father’s mercy, help me to live into the life to which You have called me by grace through faith. Guide me day by day to see those places where I am not conforming to Your image. Lead me in the upward way to deal daily with those issues and people that are leading me astray to choose the way of sin. Amen.

Devotion for Thursday, October 25, 2018

“Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, him I will destroy; no one who has a haughty look and an arrogant heart will I endure. My eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me; he who walks in a blameless way is the one who will minister to me.” (Psalm 101:5-6)

The Lord knows what is in the heart. He knows what we think and our thoughts towards our neighbor. Remember that we have been commanded to love the Lord and love our neighbor. The Lord will not tolerate in eternity those who secretly harbor ill-will toward a neighbor. Come into the Lord’s presence and ask Him to create in you a new and clean heart that loves your neighbor.

Lord, this is all well and good speaking these things, but it is very hard when you have someone in your life that gets under your skin. You know these kinds of people, for You know us all. Help me to learn how to love that I would not be driven by hatred, which is all too easy in this world, but by Your love which will lift me up to stand in Your presence as one who is blameless.

I need Your grace, Lord Jesus. Only through You will I be able to live into the goal of loving my neighbor. Teach me all that this means that I would not join in the cacophony of hatred I witness every day; but be one who is different, overcoming the feelings of anger and hatred promoted by this world . Lead me, O Lord, in the way of Your peace and help me to arrive at the place I need to be. Amen.

Devotion for Wednesday, October 24, 2018

“I will walk within my house in the integrity of my heart. I will set no worthless thing before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not fasten its grip on me. A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will know no evil.” (Psalm 101:2b-4)

The Lord is calling for us first to see those things which cause us to wander away from Him and His goodness. Then He calls for us to put those things away from our lives. He grants grace to make this journey. Do not let the things of this world grab your heart, but instead see clearly how these things tempt you. Repent and move away from the false things to live in truth always.

Lord, You know the daily struggle I have with things and how they tug at my heart, Guide me, O Lord, in the way You would have me live that I may now and always walk according to Your goodness and mercy. Help me to learn to love what is right and good and to hate those things which kill, maim and destroy. Guide me, O Lord, in Your goodness that I may always walk righteously in Your sight.

Holy Spirit, come and work on my heart. You know those places where I am hampered and hindered, and do not live as one who is righteous. Lead me in the upward journey that I may live freely in repentance, rejecting what is not good for my soul and embracing all the good things You offer. Change my heart to cherish all that is right and fitting for one who is becoming a child of the Heavenly Father. Amen.

Devotion for Tuesday, October 23, 2018

“I will sing of lovingkindness and justice, to You, O Lord, I will sing praises. I will give heed to the blameless way. When will You come to me?” (Psalm 101:1-2)

Do you walk as one who is in repentance, knowing that the way of the Lord is righteous and true? Do you seek to do things the way the Lord would have you do them? Are you comfortable in the sight of the Lord knowing that His necessary grace is as much a part of your life as breathing itself? Do you walk alongside the Lord knowing He is walking alongside you?

Lord, You and I know that I am a sinner, but also that You have provided the needed grace so that I may go to work in my life of faith. Guide me to take seriously this life You have given me that I may now and always walk as one who is under Your guidance. Lead me, O Lord, in the way You know I need to go and help me overcome those obstacles that hinder my walking humbly with You.

Lord Jesus, You have come to pave the way for the faithful to walk in the way of righteousness. Lead me, O Lord, in the way I need to go that I may listen as You direct and be guided by the eternal principles that You have commanded. May I learn from You to be humble, faithful and live in the repentance You require. May my life be increasing in the righteousness You give. Amen.

Devotion for Monday, October 22, 2018

“Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name. For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting and His faithfulness to all generations.” (Psalm 100:4-5)

Thank You, Father, for all that You have done. Though I may not understand this world as well as I sometimes think I do, You are here providing for all. Lift me onto the upward path of walking humbly in Your sight and giving You praise at all times, knowing that You have wonderfully knit all things together for Your purpose. Your goodness is everlasting and Your faithfulness forever.

Take me away from those moments of confusion when I do not see Your hand. You are always present; I sometimes simply do not see this. Your provision is for all people at all times, even though many do not thank You for what You have provided. Lead me into the truth of Your presence that I would now and always walk as one who has faith, and trusts You in all circumstances.

Your goodness to all who trust You, O Lord, is above our ability to understand. You have provided for all. Grant this day that I would be thankful and appreciate all that is around me. Help me to see the small things and be grateful. Lead me to find joy in each moment and know that You are with me and all those around me. May my life be one of thanksgiving now and always. Amen.
